I’m (Not) a Robot
speculative sound and light based installation
In this installation, the online CAPTCHA/reCAPTCHA process is being physicalized in the real world. When standing in the middle of this platform, you're being scanned for your humanness. The user/viewer is guided through this process by a sound-based narrative, and the space around them reacts accordingly.
This installation is set in a future world where humans are required to undergo regular ‘humanity checks’ to prove that they are not robots. The installation aims to immerse users in this future world that hints at things already happening now. When does security become more important than privacy? What are the dangers of biometric technology? Will we continue to accept a world where every movement is tracked and monitored? In a world where hearing devices, pacemakers, and even bionic prostheses are becoming more normal, what exactly determines whether you're a robot or human?
